A doctor by trade, Chen Sheng decides to fulfill his departed mother’s last wishes. His journey from the misty city of Kaili to the village of Dangmai grows with the weight of other missions: the search for his nephew, abandoned by a whimsical and irresponsible brother, as well as the delivery of an old woman’s belongings to her former companion. The film begins with a great freedom of tone, but the initiatory journey takes on an even more impressionistic and supernatural turn. Structured by inventive and audacious narration and directing, the protagonist’s journey, which takes place within himself as well as through paradoxical temporalities, does not create any barrier between the everyday and memory, between present and past, or between reality and the world of dreams.
