The sun is setting on Bagnolet, a small town in the outskirts of Paris. Three boys are playing soccer. One of them shoots the ball over the stadium wall, which lands in the adjacent cemetery. Only one of them is up to getting it back. And he sets on a journey that will change him forever.

Laura Garcia graduated from La Fémis as a director in 2018. In 2017 she directed Rouge Amoureuse, which won the CAMIRA award at Entrevues the same year. Her graduation film, Fragment de drame, was selected for the Cinefondation in Cannes in 2018.

NOTICE OF THE SELECTION COMITEE

By simply moving a soccer ball from the sports field to a cemetery, Laura Garcia shifts the game - and the stakes - to another cinematic territory. Leaving behind Bagnolet, his friends and their earthly problems, a young boy sinks into night and poetry. In this gothic tale where the mise-en-scène is  and the grain of the film seems to conceal an ancient mystery, emotion bursts out of a continuity : but while we expected fear, it is an infinite melancholy that pours out. Like the one that seizes when the dawn catches us by surprise.
