In order to take a new job as an employee in the public sanitation department, Juliana moves from the inner city of Itaúna to the metropolitan town of Contagem in Brazil. While waiting for her husband to join her, she adapts to her new life, meeting people and discovering new horizons, trying to overcome her past.
In his first short films, André Novais Oliveira used fiction to transform his family unit, turning his relationship with his parents into a wonderful comic act. With Long way home, he goes one step further into fiction territory to build a new community. In a generous and loving gesture, he invites us into this unherited or chosen family. This family that allows Juliana, a broken character, to start over after having lost everything. Temporada (the original title), "season" in Portuguese, is a very present film which takes the necessary time to listen to its characters and offers them a rare depth. With its slow and vibrant rhythm, the film shows in a moving and resilient motion the limitless strength that can be sourced from this family. (Laurence Reymond)
