“The first rule in farming is that you are never to hope for an easy way. The land demands your effort.” (The Georgics, Virgil). Through the course of five seasons, The Works and Days follows a female farmer in the mountains of the Kyoto county, portraying a family, a land, the soundscape and passage of time.
C.W. Winter studied at the California Institute of the Arts and has completed his doctorate in Art Practice and Theory at the University of Oxford in 2020. He has written articles for Cinema Scope and Moving Image Source.
Anders Edström is a Swedish photographer and filmmaker. His work has been exposed in Paris and in Germany and he has published several books.
Their first film, The Anchorage, has been awarded the Pardo d’oro in Cineasti del presente at Locarno in 2009.
