A melancholic atmosphere prevails on the Grand Littoral parking lot. Florence has just arrived from Brazil and doesn’t know a soul. William is about to have a job interview, along with his son Walter. People meet, others break up, among the cars and shopping carts swept by the mistral wind.

Augustin Bonnet joined the film department of the École nationale supérieure de la CinéFabrique in 2015. Upon graduation, he worked in the camera department on feature films and as a cinematographer on short films and music videos. In 2020, he moved on to directing. Grand Littoral is his first short film, both produced and broadcast.

NOTICE OF THE SELECTION COMITEE

Interstices”: small empty spaces between parts of a whole. Augustin Bonnet films these cracks from a Marseille shopping mall, overlooking the Mediterranean. Because of its size, this architectural relic of the 2000s gathers both people and gushes of wind. For his first film, this is where the director sets the scene to seek out characters that are lost in-between lives, in-between jobs or in-between towns, shapes micro-events that lead to an encounter, or a failure. Wit ushers the audience into the Grand Littoral to discover the cracks within.
