Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel’s cinema emerged from the depths of a chasm, at the intersection of a world on fire and the proliferation of virtual havens. The early use of video games and its conventions in their films was, from the outset, infused with the romantic pursuit of extending our real-world melancholies. For these two filmmakers, it is never a matter of unearthing the specks of truth behind our avatars, but of embracing what simulation conveys about our presence on the planet. A retrospective in their presence.
