The film comprises 9 separate stories which weave together. Most are set in the 17th or 18th century although one is contemporary. The characters change time and identity, embodying alternately pirates, student in theology, distraught lovers, exotic one sultana, a thief of treasures and the ready for anything nuns to save their convent...
