Elias is a designer at a textile factory in Sao Paulo and spends his evenings in the arms of his male conquests. As a free electron, he calls into question the myriad discriminations that haunt Brazil, in a simple and spontaneous way. The film presents a fluid and entrancing journey through Sao Paulo’s night life, in which bodies meet, flirt, and cross-dress, and in which individuals strive to give meaning to their lives as best they can. In this first feature-length film, Marcelo Caetano focuses on a gallery of unforgettable characters, filmed with great tenderness. Through them, he proposes a human horizontality, versus the anxiety-inducing verticality of the Brazilian metropolis. (Laurence Reymond)
Marcelo Caetano worked as co-writer on Anna Muylaert's Don't Call Me Son, and casting director on Aquarius by Kleber Mendonça Filho. Body Electric, selected in Rotterdam FF, is his first feature. SF : Bailão (2009), By Your Side (2011), Verona (2013)
