Emilie attempts to understand the mystery of her universe: her mother Meaud.

Magical grandmother, broken child, punk mother, spontaneous feminist, she fascinates as much as she disrupts. Jump into an intimate odyssey, an intergalactic journey into our own common psyche.

After studying applied arts and working as a designer, Emilie Brisavoine appeared in Justine Triet's film La bataille de Solférino, and later played for Arthur Harari in Peine Perdue. Pauline s'arrache, her first feature film, a documentary about her family, was presented at Acid Cannes in 2015. Keeping Mum is her second feature film.

A word from the selection committee :
Keeping Mum kicks off with a journey through galaxies: a standardised voice encourages viewers to go back billions of years to understand our universe. But the truth is rather closer for Émilie Brisavoine. The director must stand up to her mother Meaud, the dark, captivating comet we discovered in Oh La La Pauline! (2015), in which her step-sister’s teenage crisis was the gateway to an eventful exploration of the family unit. This time, there’s no way around it. But what is there to gain from a direct confrontation with a mother figure she both loves and avoids? Apologies? Something of the truth? Armed with her wit, Émilie Brisavoine feels her way into her intimacy, dives back into her childhood and puts her film together by blending different materials (Skype calls, family footage, Youtube videos), a purposefully hectic approach to filmmaking, as an echo to her mother’s punk personality. The documentary storyline chances upon resentment and dashed hopes, but is nonetheless driven by a longing for peace. Director Émilie Brisavoine invents her very own therapeutic devices through this investigation, where astrophysics and childhood memories meet.
