I HEARD THAT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO SEE EACH OTHER ANYMORE
Ka-Ki WONG

Several destinies are intertwined in a dreamlike and labyrinthine Taipei. Young Tao is unhappily in love with Shin. Melih has migrated from Istanbul and runs a noodle restaurant, where the perpetually drunk Ping is a regular. A mysterious and possibly enchanted flower, passed from hand to hand, ties the stories together – and might be the magic key to breaking the isolation between them
A word from the selection committee :
With her first feature film, Ka-Ki Wong takes a curious sidestep, turning away from the rich history of Taiwanese cinema to borrow motifs straight out of Wong Kar-wai, particularly from films he directed just before the 1997 handover of Hong Kong, Chungking Express and Fallen Angels. Beyond the romantic comedy genre, which she embraces with unwavering energy, it’s no coincidence that her characters are more often caught in public spaces, which seem to empty and fill with people in step with their emotional shifts.
If the film’s playground is Taipei and the nature surrounding it, the film itself seems forever in transit; between dream and reality, the absurd and the poetic, documentary and fiction. It wanders the streets of Taipei the way one might leaf through a phonebook, not quite knowing what one is looking for.
The very nature of the image and the frame are forever changing in connection with this land that seems to struggle to hold steady, as if peeling off layers of reality to reach what matters most: the flower’s point of view.
