NOS PAS BRÛLENT LA NUIT
Grégory COHEN / Manon OTT

On the French-Italian border, Juliette, Ali, and Téo strive to help exiles make their way across. Meanwhile, Camille and Chamberlain roam the mountains of the hinterland, in search of their own history. At night, around the fire, they come together, friendships are forged and new forms of solidarity emerge.
A word from the selection committee :
The breathtaking beauty of the Alps along the French-Italian border, between Vintimiglia and Menton, fosters bonds with that of the increasingly familiar faces that light up the screen – themselves lit, in turn, by the setting sun, the stars, and the campfires. Filmmakers Manon Ott and Grégory Cohen make a very simple choice: to spend time in the open air with a handful of activists through a succession of moments and stretches of time, as they assist migrants seeking to cross the border in the face of its closure and growing repression. The film captures the everyday flow of gestures, words, doubts and decisions, as well as actions – practical or symbolic (though they are practical as well) – and moods, both collective and individual, as they all engage with this activist work according to their personality and personal story. There is no other narrative than the present moment, nor other demonstration than the peoples’ commitment in a world that seems to vibrate under broader horizons. Thus, at the very place from which it has been wrested, a sense of space, perspective, free movement, warmth and friendship is restored.
