Hayat has come to Berlin with her husband Harun to provide a better life for their unborn child. All they have is a small suitcase and Hayat's nightmares of her life in Syria.
Süheyla Schwenk was born in Sweden and grew-up in Turkey. She obtained a Master in Acting in Istanbul. Since 2012 she has been studying Directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB). In 2017, she received a scholarship to study at the Cuban film school EICTV. Her two previous shorts have been successful in festivals: Meral, Kizim in 2015 and Sevince in 2016. Jiyan is her first feature film.
