Ling teaches Mandarin at a Singapore high school where her subject is disregarded. For years now, she and her husband have been trying to conceive a child and the process has eroded their relationship. As her professional and personal life disintegrate, her relationship with a student turns her life upside down.

 

Anthony Chen studied at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic School of Film and Media Studies in Singapore and then at the National Film and Television School in London. He has made several shorts internationally noticed (Grandma which received a Special Mention in 2007, Haze selected in Berlinale Shorts in 2008), before his debut feature Ilo Ilo, selected in the Directors’ Fortnight, was awarded the Camera d’Or in Cannes in 2013. He is also a producer in his company Giraffe pictures.
